Arguments Against Corporal Punishment

Included in this post is an interesting article discussing the negativities associated with corporal punishment. I think everyone would agree that when it comes to behavior, specifically student behavior, one almost feels a need to become an expert in the field. The article raises a very important question: is corporal punishment an effective deterrant to bad behavior? After reading, exploring alternatives is certainly noteworthy. In graduate school, support for or against was ambiguous. Discussed was, however, that corporal punishment did not violate the Eighth Amendment, i.e. cruel and unusual punishment, so long as the punishment was not capricious or malicious and definitely ordinary.
